The Danish Institute at Athens

The Danish Institute at Athens is a non-profit, self-governing foundation belonging to the resort of the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The Danish National Museum and the Universities of Aarhus, Copenhagen, and Southern Denmark are co-funders.

The Institute supports research and studies in archaeology, history, literature, architecture, art history, cultural tradition, and modern Greek language, as well as the work of Danish creative artists and artist-craftsmen.

The Danish Institute was founded in 1992 and is among the youngest of the 16 foreign archaeological schools at Athens. It is situated in Plaka east of the Acropolis.

Cultural events arranged by the Institute, whether lectures in a foreign language, concerts, or exhibitions, are announced biannually.

The institute is engaged in archaeological field-work. The results are published in Proceedings of The Danish Institute at Athens (PDIA), one of two series of publications issued by the Institute.

Conferences, seminars, and training courses i.a. for PhD students form part of the activities of The Danish Institute.

The Nordic Library lies within walking distance. It is a research library, run jointly by the Athenian Institutes of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden

The institute is closed in August.
